Gave this one away but gained a loosing bonus point.

This should have been a brake on the run of losses and early on it looked as if it would be.
Torquay kicked off with the wind and rain but sadly we gave away a penalty in the first move of the game to go 0~3 down inside a minute.
Once that was out of the way we started to play as we should do, we put the pressure on Torquay with the pack doing really well pushing the Torquay scum back with some ease, taking the first scrum against the head and showing stronger in the loose, we had most of the ball and territory
On five minutes we won a line out five meters out from their line but the ball did not go in straight and they got a scrum from it, we pushed them back hard but they managed to turn it in to a ruck then clear the ball with a long kick, unfortunately for them it dribbled dead so we had a scrum back but we not able to make anything of it.
On eight minutes we won a penalty outside the twenty two and a little way off centre, the kick was not struck right and missed the north post hardly getting above the cross bar height as it went on its way.
A good run down the south side by Matt Morrison got in to their twenty two then the ball was send across the field through various hands to Luke Stannard who went for the line but was stopped by three defenders a little short.
On fifteen minutes a line out inside their twenty two was taken and a drive for the line started, Torquay disrupted it here and there but the core rumbled on and over the line for Dan Edgecombe to claim the points. The difficult touchline kick against wind and rain was missed. 5~3.
On thirty six minutes we got a line out, won it, drove for their line were stopped but they infringed and we go a penalty, rather than go for posts we went for a scrum, the ball came out and Matt Gregory went once down the open side, Matt Witcher at scrum half sent it to Andy Pond on the blind side who went once then Matt Witcher sent it to Matt Morrison who nipped down a tight blindside to score, an excellent sidelines conversion against the elements went over for a 12~3 lead.
Unfortunately from the restart they came back at us and won a penalty that they kicked to take us to half time and 12~6 up.
Considering the amount of ball we had we probably should have been another try up, we never really seemed to have the killer instinct to put possession in to points. Still with the forwards playing well, six points up and lots of possession a second half with the wind and rain behind us and it was looking good.
For most of the first half Torquay looked as if they were expecting to loose as they had been in our half very little but when they had we gave them six points. They defended our attacks well.
Whatever the half time talk was it did them good, their scrum started to hold ours and after four minutes they won a midfield field penalty and put it over to close in on us at 12~9.
For some reason we seemed to loose the initiative, I suppose they were invigorated by their three penalties and only three points behind could see the possibility of a win or at least a bonus point.
On seven minutes a catch and drive by them was stopped illegally so they took a pot at goal but missed.
They then spent a while inside our twenty two, we defended well but eventually they won a line out, caught and drove and scored and with the conversion they went in to the lead by 12~16.
On fifteen Matt Anstis missed a penalty from the ten-meter line and about half way out on the north side.
A little while afterwards we won another penalty and went for the lineout, mauled the ball for a little way then lost it and they kicked out.
On twenty Matt Anstis put over a penalty to take us to 15~16.
The game dribbled to a close after that, Torquay attacked a number of times but we defended them all well or they gave away unforced errors, on one Matt Anstis put away a lovely clearance kick from his own try line down to their twenty two on the south side from that and one or two other moments in their half came away with nothing.
Right at the end Torquay pressed, our scrum did disrupt one of their five meter scrums and prevented them scoring. Had they scored we would have lost the loosing bonus point fortunately they did not throw in straight at their last attempt and we cleared.
We had one last go in their half but it came to nothing and with it the final whistle went.
Unfortunately a game we gave away, the only plus to the afternoon was a loosing bonus points, out scoring them by two tries to one and the thirds winning against Tamar Saracens II in the Ellis cup 1st round.
