A fine Indian Summer morning. No one would of believed the date was October the 8th as the mercury hit the low 20s on The Creek this morning.

Saltash turned up well drilled and ready to display what appeared to be a constructive pre season build up. Devonport took to the field and conducted their usual pregame warm up before regrouping in the changing rooms before jogging out together prior to kick off.

A fast strong start from Saltash met by an uncharacteristic slow sleepy start from Devonport made for a very early wake up call with Saltash running in an early try almost unopposed. A complete turn around from the well organised solid defence Devonport showed throughout the entirety of last weeks away victory. Saltash were strong at the breakdown causing Devonport to struggle for any ball to play with throughout the first half. A breakaway try coming from Albie Rickard credit to his elusive running a breakneck speed. Saltash going over again not long before the end of the first half.

During the half time oranges coaches from both sides introduced some of the substitutes to get stuck in. Again Saltash were strong at the breakdown however this time Devonport managed to get themselves through the gears more than they did in the first half and some phase play of their own was beginning to be achieved.

Saltash again first to get on the score board going over for a well worked try and with the score now up at 3 to 1 one might of thought the game was going to start to go all in the way of Saltash.

Controlled aggression levels were raised from Devonport and Saltash did not manage to cross the white wash again that morning.
With the final passage of play Devonport managed to hold Saltash up in the tackle something they had been successful in numerous times during the game, this time Albie Rickard ripped the ball out of the maul and darted up the blindside to dot down for his 2nd try and the final act of the game.

Both teams came together after a hard fought game and ended in the way the game should have with the traditional tunnel set up by Devonport and handshakes given and exchanged all round.

Saltash deserved winners at full time and Devonport wishes them well for the remainder of their season.

The lads did as they usually do post game and even though the score board was not in their favour in the end the under 12s still cracked out a post match play list over the loud speaker in the changing rooms and had a good sing along together whilst braving some very fresh showers!
