DSRFC U14S 2011-12 season

DSRFC U14S 2011-12 season.
We started the season away to our local nemesis Kingsbridge and produced a fantastic win to start the season.Superb defence and tackling that was never bettered all season provided the platform to score two match winning tries to win 13-10
Lost to Sidmouth wont dwell on that
.Unfortuanately the team were knocked out of the Devon Cup by Okehampton 27-14,nice to have a neutral ref,not that he knew their names.

We then played Plymstock beat them by 74 pts to 7 altough some say the score was more.Josh Chalmers scored 5 tries.

One of the highlights of the season came the following week against Saltash, who had always beaten us with ease in previous seasons the score of 46-0 including 8 tries.I remember the coaches saying kick a pen players blatantly ignored us and scored a try

We then had a game against Plymstock AGAIN beat them 24-0,think the lads thought it was going to be easy.

Brixham was the next big test, like Saltash they always beat us and although losing 17-22,that day showed how much the team were already improving. turned down a rematch, cant understand why eh Josh.

Started the new year with a match against ?????????(plymstock) and won 20-10 and made it 3 out of 3.This match saw Toby Knowles score two tries, but proved to be his last game of season as he has suffered a knee problem,he is awaitong results of a scan and we wish him all the best, and hopefully see him next season.

Lost to the enemy (cough over bridge)

Then Surprise surprise we drew (Plymstock) in the Devon Plate, where focus and determination played a big part in the win. Before the game we said the game may be won in 1st or last minute but we didnt expect them to do the latter. Plymstock had the upper hand for most of the match the 'never say die' attitude wore the opposition down and we won the tie with two late tries, score was 15-5. 4 out of 4.

A respectable 24-5 defeat to the then Devon champions Newton Abbott followed and praise was forthcoming from their coaches who said we were one of the best sides they had played this season.

The side bowed out of the Devon Plate with a 33 nil away defeat to Bideford who went on to lose against eventual winners Sidmouth.
Myself and TB were over the other side of the pitch and to hear the parents literally screaming, willing our lads to get a try was one of the most enduring parts of the season.

Oh and then we played ??????????,but could only manage a 5-5 draw,so 4 wins out of 5 not bad, still not had the bill for the changing rooms.

At the Devon 7s festival we entered two sides and near the end of the tournament both sides played some really good rugby in awful conditions culminating in a third place finish in the Shield competition after beating Withycombe 32-0.We then went on to support Barnstaple in winning the final against (cough bridge).

The season finished as it began by beating Kingsbridge again this time 17-15 .To beat them twice this season shows great progress,by this current group of lads and this is due to good training and listening to what the lads are being taught, and taking this into matches.
