The third team match report.

We have played Jesters a number of times over the last two seasons, and we have won them all by good margins.
This time, they were five players short, so we loaned them five just to give everyone a game on a sunny afternoon.
It was played in a really jolly and fun spirit.

Jesters started strongly putting us under pressure for a short while after turning us over from the start, then we turned them over and getting down the pitch from our own half, Misa Cvetanovic crossed to score the first points. 5~0.
The second try came on ten minutes from Olly Whitfield after a speedy run in, the conversion by Olly went over. 12~0.
Then, a couple of minutes after the restart, they scored after a smooth passing move by a number of players put away Owen Kerswell, who had Matt Glastonbury on his shoulder in support, who was on loan to them, but the conversion was missed. 12~5.
Warren Weerakoon strongly ran at their line, was held up, they kicked long, didn’t make touch, and Jacob Price took it and ran it back to score. Olly Whitfield converted. 19~5.
Jesters attacked, loaned player Olly Mytton did a lovely cross-field kick, which was well taken, close to our line, tackled, he made the ball available, a couple of passes, and Olly Mytton crossed to score, conversion missed. 19~10.
Jesters kicked out of defence but failed to make touch, we ran it back at them with Warren Weerakoon taking it on to score. Rohan Johnson converted. 26~10.
Then Khane Taylor-Young scored, good to see him back playing for us, he ran in from halfway, avoiding a couple of tackles on the way. The conversion missed. 31~10.
Then Jesters came back with a try from Keith Pascoe, converted by Olly Mytton. 31~17.
The last try of the half came from veteran Matt Witcher, which was not converted, 36~17 at halftime.
Both lineouts were working well. We were just on top in the scrums, but not enough to make any difference.

We scored first in the second half. We kicked off, and the high kick was lost by them, but went backwards. We managed to get the ball and quickly recycled it for Olly Mytton to go through at an unstoppable speed to score under the crossbar. Olly Whitfield converted. 43~17.

They had a scrum on the changing room side, won it easily and put it through the hands, we stole it off them, through three sets on hands for Jacob Price to run in under the crossbar and score his second, Olly Whitfield converted. 50~17.
Jesters came back with a try, scored by Khane Taylor-Young, one of our players who volunteered to play for them, a simple run in from the ten-yard line and under the crossbar; he converted his own effort. 50~24.
Matt Witcher scored his second, in the lead up to the try, one of the Jesters’ players shouted, “Can we stop, Matt Glastonbury has made a tackle.” chuckling all round. 55~24.
Then Rohan Johnston ran in undisturbed from his own half, weaving around two defenders to score, conversion missed.
The game ambled towards a close with a third try from Jacob Price, 65~24, then another from Owen Kerswell, one for each side. 70~24.
Misa Cvetanovic scored his second, strong enough to pull through a tackle to dive over. 75~24.
Warren Weerakoon scored his second running in from halfway down the left wing, a defender got to him close to the line, but a good hand off saw him free to dive over. The conversion drop kick was missed.
With that, the referee blew for full time. One of two Jesters’ players sat on the ground shouted, “Sir, we were just getting started”.It was that sort of game.
It was still rather one-sided in the end, but up to half-time it was quite a bit closer,
Everyone enjoyed themselves on a warm and sunny afternoon. A good advertisement for rugby.
The team was managed by Jim Moss.
