Colts hold on for a narrow win. 29-26 against Sidmouth

The Colts held out in the final minutes to edge a win over Sidmouth at Keyham, which finished 29 - 26.

We got off to a great start, with Cohen Robinson on the end of a very well executed catch and drive lineout, after an early Sidmouth infringement.
5 - 0.
Sidmouth got into the game after that early shock and had some decent possession in our half for a time. We defended well and limited their chances, but a lovely little chip and chase by their 10 levelled the score, and the extras were added to make it 5 - 7.
Both sides enjoyed a share of the ball for the next 10 minutes, and there was some good rugby played on a rare dry day.
Scrum half Max Pennington broke the deadlock with a snipe at the breakdown from 5 metres out, getting the lead back at 10 - 7.
Sidmouth again came back at us from the kick off, and a few minutes later, after some missed tackles, they broke into our 22 and after a couple of phases, rumbled over to retake the lead 10 - 14 after an easy conversion.
An injury in the backs led to a reshuffle, and Harris Stewart, normally a back rower, ended up on the wing. Just before halftime, Sidmouth missed touch off a clearance kick, and after a quick ruck, Harris wrong footed his opposite number and outpaced 2 chasing defenders to score under the posts, James Furness adding the conversion for a 17 - 14 lead at the end of the half.

The next score looked critical, and both teams started the half well. Handling errors cost Sidmouth and us early on, but we settled down first, and it wasn’t long before Emerson Andrews flopped over wide out after taking a quick penalty 22 - 14.
Then came the try off the match. A wayward Sidmouth kick into our half found Emerson, who quickly shifted the ball to the backs, a couple of passes and Liam Furze floated a lovely pass to James Furness on the touchline. He still had some work to do, but a nice little chip and chase paid off, and he went in under the sticks and added the extras 29 - 14.
As often happens in these games, a little bit of complacency crept in with our 2 quick scores, and we took our foot off the gas and lost some concentration and shape.
Sidmouth had come to play and kept us pinned in our 22 under pressure. We defended well and held one try up over the line, but Sidmouth were soon back at us. Hassan Jero picked up a silly yellow card, which led to a try soon after 29 - 19.
Sensing they still had a chance, Sidmouth threw everything at us and with 5 minutes left scored again and added the extras 29 - 26.
Our defence stood firm, and we saw out the last few minutes with some anxious faces in the crowd, final score 29 -26 and probably a fair result after a good game of rugby.
