U16s too hot to handle at the Rec.
A glorious day for running rugby at the Rec.
7 wins on the bounce now for the under-16s, who are playing some great attacking rugby.
A strange game in that Newton Abbot travelled with only 13 players which we had to match according to competition rules. Uncontested scrums added to the chaos but after some discussion, the game went ahead.
It’s difficult to put together an accurate report given the circumstances, but the boys were tasked with a win and a bonus point. They certainly delivered. The game was over as a contest inside 28 mins with tries from Harris, Harry Witcher, Max Pennington and a brace for Isaac, Joss converting 4, for a 33 - 0 lead.
Good structure and fast hands led to further scores from Ben and Charlie Hutchings, but Newton capitalised on a mistake in our 22 to cross in the corner making the score 45 - 5 at the break.
The fast flowing rugby continued in the second half and although Newton did their best to stop our attack and never gave up, it was one way traffic again. Max Pennington and Harry Witcher crossed again and soon after Isaac completed his hat trick, Joss converting all 3 for a 66 - 5 lead.
Newton hit back with a brief period of possession and some strong carries to make it 66 - 10.
At this point our extra numbers started to make a difference with regular substitutions keeping players fresh.
Further tries were added by Max Pennington and Harry Witcher, both completing hat tricks and another from Zac, 2 converted by Joss.
Final score 85 - 10, but for competition purposes a maximum of 50 points difference can be recorded, so the official score is 60 - 10.
15 tries, 10 conversions and 7 wins on the bounce.
Happy coaches.
