Devonport Services U13s v Newton Abbot U10s.

Services were made to work really hard for their win on Sunday morning against a very well drilled and determined Newton Abbot squad.

NA started the stronger of the two squads and,as they did at the beginning of the season, went into a two ties to nil lead before Services realised that if they continued to drop off tackles and allow the NA players to run through them, then it was going to be a very long morning.

Services were able to pull the score back to two tries a piece, only for NA to score a further two tries before half time to lead 4 tries to 2.

Same personnel, but a different attitude from Services after their half time break, and they tightened up their defence, and with some aggressive defence, they forced NA into numerous mistakes, which Services were able to capitalise on and score 4 unanswered second half tries.

Because of their second half performance, the Player Of The Week was shared between 3 players, and the Bosh Of The Week was awarded to Freddie Colling, who made such a big hit on a Newton Abbot player that resulted in a try by Ollie Corbett.

Services U10 girls played in a cluster match with girls from Paignton and Cullompton and after a slow start, the team eventually gelled and produced a good team performance.

Devonport Services U10s vs Newton Abbot U10s

Devonport Services U10s travelled to face Newton Abbot U10s in what proved to be a hard-fought and impressive victory for the young Devonport side.

From the first whistle, Devonport showed real determination and teamwork. The team set out with a clear plan for the match, and the players delivered on it across the pitch. Strong tackling, good passing and excellent support play allowed Devonport to control large parts of the game.

Newton Abbot are known for their physical style of rugby. They run the ball hard and compete strongly at the breakdown. However, Devonport matched that intensity and prevented Newton Abbot from settling into their usual rhythm. Dominant tackles, quick counter-rucks and smart passing created opportunities which the team used well throughout the match.

The players worked together brilliantly, showing courage, commitment and great sportsmanship. Support for teammates never stopped, with constant encouragement and high fives across the field.

Devonport also moved the ball well through the hands, with players looking to pass and offload when space opened up. This approach helped create several scoring opportunities and kept the Newton Abbot defence under pressure.

After the match, members of the Newton Abbot coaching team praised the Devonport players for their teamwork and togetherness, highlighting how well the group played as a unit.

While the victory was well deserved, the coaches highlighted a few areas to keep improving:
• Defenders coming off the line quicker to close down space
• Maintaining good shape in both attack and defence

Overall, it was a fantastic performance from Devonport Services U10s and a result that the whole team can feel proud of.

Final Result:
Devonport Services U10s – Hard fought victory over Newton Abbot U10s ?❤️
