Services U13 hosted their first ever match under floodlights at Keyham sports ground on Friday, 30th January in what has to be described as challenging weather conditions, with strong winds and very cold, heavy rain showers.
This was a closely fought match between two unbeaten squads, and it's fair to say that both squads were evenly matched throughout the whole of the first half, with Services scoring the first two tries of the match to lead 10-0, only for Oaks to level the scores in a heavily contested match, but Services were able to take the lead by scoring their third try of the first half to go into the half time break 15-10.
The second half continued to be as physical as the first half, with some bone crunching tackling by both sides, but as the second half wore on, it was Services' fitness that eventually saw them score two unanswered tries to close the match out to 25-10.
Both teams did their respective clubs proud with a display of hard running and hard-hitting rugby in front of their parents and should be congratulated for the spirit in which the match was played.
Scorers for Services we're, Freddie Colling, Finn Howie, Ollie Corbett, and a brace of tries from Felix Cotton.
