The Under 13s match report by Ian McCombes.

The U13s visited Torquay this weekend with a somewhat depleted squad. Despite having 14 players, the opposition only had 12, so the coaches agreed to play 12 a side. The first half was very even, with Services slightly edging the lead on the scoreboard. However, the Services forwards continued to enforce their first-half dominance in the second half, with some standout performances from Alfie N and Boris P. This dominance provided a foundation for the backs to execute their moves and take an unassailable lead.
It was particularly pleasing to see Alfred on the score board, and the coaches would like to say congratulations to Layton, who made a try-scoring debut and put in a series of bone-crushing tackles. The Torquay coach, who refereed the game and was excellent, approached the Services coach at the end of the game and highlighted how impressed he was with one of the Services players, Rhys H. He added that Rhys didn’t stop encouraging his teammates and was courteous and respectful to the opposition throughout. He also had a great game today, so well done, Rhys. The game finished 10 - 5 tries to Services.

The Under 12s match report by Dave Chorley and Sara.
Devonport Services under 12s got back to their winning ways after a great performance against Torquay. The forwards dominated at the rucks from the opening whistle and provided a foundation for the backs to show their class out wide. The first try came within the first minute of play; a dropped ball was scooped up by Seth Brannon who crossed the Whyte wash for his first try of the season. Torquay had some huge players in their ranks who did manage to break through Services’ defences a few times, although tackling on the whole was a mark up from last week. A great dummy from scrum-half William Ball put Services back in the lead, and then Services began to run away with the scoreline. Further tries came from Rex Chorley, Harry Peres, and Henry James. Captain Sonny Winfield put in an excellent performance at 10, who was stepping in for injured James Hinde, who is currently out with a knee injury. Man of the match honours were split between Brannan and Peres, who dominated at the breakdown.

The U9s match report from the hand of Aaron Webb.

‘The U9s had a fairly even game away at Torquay, just edging the win. The team showed fantastic defence, both individually and as a team. In attack, the team kept on developing their offloading and support play.
Each week, the team is improving, and that has come through their hard work in training. Keep it up, U9s!
