U15s Tear Up The Form Book
The under 15s had a day to remember on Sunday beating age group golden boys 'Lee Mill North' 28-24 in a thrilling encounter at Keyham. Last season's fixture ended 65-5 to them.
We were a bit slow out of the blocks and they grabbed three tries in the first 15 minutes with no reply and the worst seemed inevitable.
A stern behind-the-post “chat” from Head coach Steve Mole sparked the boy's belief and they were soon on the board with a brilliant solo counterattack score from winger Bayley Fisher. Converted from the touchline by Harry Witcher. 7-17.
The tide then turned with us piling on the pressure, a high tackle and at the ruck resulting in a midfield penalty.
A pinpoint touch kick by Witcher led to a catch and drive score finished off by impressive No 8 Will Phare, again converted by Witcher. 14-17, game on.
Another well worked try from them and it was 14-22 at the break.
Nine changes at halftime could have disrupted us, but the opposite happened. The finishers scorched into action and from another catch and drive, Wil Phare broke blind and got his second touchdown in the corner. Witcher had brought his kicking boots and again converted from the touchline. 21-22. The last 10 minutes saw them throw everything at us, but we held firm with some good line speed and big collisions. Eventually, they ran out of ideas and with a couple f minutes left on the clock, Cosmo Searls dived in under the posts to finish them off. Harry Witcher left with a simple chip over the bar to cap a fine individual performance.
Moley said after the game, “incredible performance by all of the lads today, but there is a lot of work still to do. Watch this space!!!”
Also a huge thank you and welcome back to ref Paul Stinchcombe after his recent health issues.
