Devonport Services under 9s made the trip to Brixham this Sunday for an action packed, sun filled, victorious morning of rugby.

As the first match kicked off, it appeared that Brixham were fielding a strong side and the first half saw them putting the pressure onto Services who took a while to get organised. After several fumbles and resulting lost balls, it clicked for Devonport and the tries started to come thick and fast.

Services' Loyd Atwill scored the opener, closely followed by another try from Ethan Hilland. Devonport's defence was consistent and Brixham had difficulty in breaking through. Perseverance paid off though and despite several outstanding tackles from Services, Brixham were able to find space to touch down with their opening try.

Having conceded the try, Services were spurred on and the well drilled team really started to pressure Brixham. George Pooley scored twice in quick succession with excellent passing and support from Josh Oliver and Adam Saralis.

The second half saw much of the same with tries from Ethan Hilland and tremendous support from Max Ringrose and Ben Simpson. Pooley and Atwill each scored again, taking their tally to 3 apiece. Brixham kept on trying to break through and managed to score their second as Services were starting to look tired.

The supporters were on tenterhooks as Brixham were within a fingertip of a third, which was disallowed having been dropped on the line by their player. This inspired one final push from Services, with Jacob Michaelides grabbing the loose ball and making a storming run down the full length of the pitch for try number 8 to Brixham's 2.

The second match saw much of the same with some great defensive work from Services. The team were looking well drilled and confident in their tackles and passes. Services' Joe Harvey scored the first try of the match and Brixham quickly answered with an equaliser. Leyton Yung and Ivan Babichev led Devonport from the centre, identifying space and driving the ball forward, enabling Alex McCreedy to score a further try. Brixham answered with two more and the second half saw Services playing against the pitch incline, putting Brixham in the stronger position against tired legs.

Devonport's Mikey Kelly made some great runs and made good progress towards the try line, supported by Max Williams and Bryon-Lee Read. James Coleman took advantage of a gap out on the wing and touched down for his first try for Services. The last leg of the match was hard fought and despite a further try from Harvey, Brixham were slightly stronger and the final score was 6-4 to them.
