Devonport Services U16 Girls V Crediton U16 Girls
The girls made their way to Crediton on a gloomy Sunday Afternoon. Crediton are always a tough opposition and today was no different. The pitch was already cut up and heavy underfoot, Devonport started going uphill in the first half and were on the offensive straight away. Although the conditions were not great the girls were moving the ball well and had some great running lines. However, Crediton were up to the task and defended really well and made several attacks of their own. The teams were very evenly matched with neither team giving much ground.
The breakthrough came when Devonport had several phases of play and trundling up the pitch, then from the last ruck some lovely passing for Alice F to go over just to the right of the posts. Beth H slotting the conversion. Showing how tight it was, that was the only score of the first half.
The Second half started where the first left off. Continuing to be a close encounter. Having the benefit of the slope the girls made it difficult for themselves with the penalty count against Devonport going well into double figures. After some great teamwork only for us to get sent back 10 on many occasions. The girls however were a determined bunch and after another great few phases of play sent Taylor M in under the posts only for it to be disallowed. With Devonport taking a slight upper hand, keeping Crediton in their own 22, the girls kept the pressure on and again some great phases put Alice F in the right hand corner. Devonport continued to push, and Crediton were still holding an awesome defence but with some loose ball being picked up by Bo W, and managing to wriggle over for Devonport's third. With only a few minutes to go, Crediton kept their style and composure and with the final whistle beckoning were able to string together some of their own lovely play and crossed in the far left corner.
Final Score Devonport Services 17 - Crediton 5
